Poker Face January 2014

Long time Metro Card Club Davao patron ABS is the January 2014 Poker Face Champion, taking home Php 114,000, a seat for the February 2014 tournament, a picture at the MCCD Poker Face Wall, and the first seat at the 2014 Poker Face Tournament of Champions.

The first Poker Face Tournament of 2014 took place last January 24 - 26, 2014. Poker Face is the flagship tournament of MCCD.  The tradition started in October 2008. It is considered as the biggest monthly poker tournament in Mindanao. Unfortunately, there weren’t any Poker Face tournaments in the past few months.

With the leadership of MCCD COO Mr. Jim Regis, the tournament has been revived, bigger and better.  According to Mr Regis, the previous year was another milestone in the growth of MCCD and he hopes to improve this year to offer more high stakes tournaments in the future.

To kick off the year and a new page in the MCCD history, the best deal in town featured a Php 300,000 guaranteed pot with a Php 2,500 Buy In and 250 Registration fee. 

Day 1 of the tournament was played for two days with a total of 168 entries joining the competition.  Of the 168 players, only 51 made it to Day 2.  31 players qualified from Day 1A and only 20 players qualified from Day 1B.

The Finals started at 6PM with 6 tables and was down to only one table at 10PM.  The top 10 who made it to the Final table were:

Aside from cash prizes, the ten finalists will also have a seat for the next Poker Face Tournament on February 2014.

First out from the final table was Hutch who was declared as the 10th Placer, followed by Iceman at 9th Place.

12 MN passed but the table was still filled with eight qualifiers. Dave at the 8th place, and Alex at the 7th place.  Kiko bagged the 6th spot, while Stephen and Kevin were eliminated at 5th and 4th Place, respectively.

All eyes were on the table when the last three players were left.  Bar, the DAY 1A chip leader started Day 2 with 169,900.  Veteran Abs who started DAY 2 at number 10 in the Chip Leader list with a stack of 78,200.  While young gun Pete started with only 21,000 at #43.

Bar left the table winning 3rd Place when he went All-in with 5 & 7 and Pete called with 9 & 3.  The flop gave a 6, Q, and a 6, while the turn and river yielded a 9 and a 3.

The room became more intense when only two finalists, Abs and Pete were left on the table.

In the Final Heads Up, Pete went all in with a Jack and a 9 and Abs called with an Ace and a 3. The flop showed a 6, a Queen, and a 6.  The turn gave a 2 and the river was a King.  Abs won with an Ace high hand.

Abs was declared the champion bringing home a pot of Php 114,000, a coveted spot on the Poker Face wall, and a Poker Face seat for February.  Abs is also the first player to get a seat for the MCCD Poker Face Tournament of Champions 2014 which will be held on December 2014 with a guaranteed pot of P120,000.

The next Poker Face Tournament will be held on February 22, 2014.  Get a chance to win a seat to join the action by playing in the MCC daily tournaments with buy ins starting at only P250.
